Indian JUGAAD - What every other Nation can learn from it..?
Someone has rightly said that ‘India is a Land of Opportunities’. It has something for everyone. This nation very soon is going to overtake China in terms of the World’s highest populated country, being a runner-up with a population size of around 1.3 billion approx. Indians are everywhere. They are on land, they are in the sea, they are exploring the universe by sitting in a spacecraft and one day they will be on the ‘Future Earth’, i.e. MARS as well. We are very large in numbers and we proudly stand tall at this place against the rest of the world. But this leads to problems as well, which are continually being faced by the citizens of India. The high amount of population is directly proportional to the high demand for available resources. But since we lack equality, some remain with the least amount of resources, and on the other hand, some are having resources in abundance. Here, resources include everything that is required to live a peaceful life.
The thirst of fulfilling such unfulfilled desires then leads to ultimate ‘JUGAAD’. A thing which is becoming as necessary as any other natural resource in this world for us. We are highly obsessed with the term JUGAAD. In a layman language, JUGAAD simply means ‘CREATING VALUE FROM VALUELESS’. Simple, but a very powerful tool for getting anything by creating opportunities for yourself.
I would try to explain the meaning of Jugaad with the example of an Indian Housewife. Read and understand this example as you are reading the essence of this whole article - When her (housewife) husband’s shirt is newly purchased then she will make her husband to wear that shirt everywhere. After some time when the shirt starts losing its shining, then the husband will wear that shirt for SLEEPING purpose. When the same shirt gets torn from some places, then the husband will have to wear that same shirt on HOLI (festival of colors in India). The same shirt can be extended to two HOLIs as well. After the final Holi, when shirt cannot be used for any purpose, then the housewife is going to use it as a FLOOR CLEANER or simply as a Duster which is used for cleaning.
Now you must have understood the real meaning of JUGAAD. I can proudly say that we are smart as well as prudent. We always believe that one problem opens the doors for the vast number of opportunities. Yes, we are having less number of resources, but we are the one who is teaching the whole world the actual meaning of optimum utilization of resources. Because we are unable to afford costly GYM Equipment, we are leading the whole world towards practicing the art of spirituality in the form of YOGA. This is where each and every one should learn from this nation regarding the use of available resources. We know that because of the unstable political structure, unstable demand, high growth in population, everyone’s demand cannot be fulfilled. Some faces rejection, but still there is a ray of hope which lies with everyone. This is the one thing which binds us together and makes us strong enough to face any hazard of this world. One person does multiple numbers of activities single-handedly in order to earn his livelihood. Our intellectual level cannot be and must not be judged on the basis of our per capita income or our rate of GDP.
The majority of the developed nations are equipped with world-class facilities. They are leading the way for the technology-driven future, but they are simply ignoring the needs of the present. They are making everyone puppets whose controls are going to be in the hands of ROBOTS or in the ongoing trend of Artificial Intelligence. They are exploiting not only their own citizens, they are harming everyone in this world.
Recently in one of the world’s most developed nation, NO-TECHNOLOGY houses are being constructed.
No-technology houses are equipped with following facilities –
- No Mobile Connection
- Houses will be located near the forests or at the distant places where people can de-attach themselves from the real world in order to attain the peace.
- No Electrical Appliance or Electronic Equipment such as Television, Refrigerator, etc.
- No Artificial Lighting.
- Floors for sleeping ( No bed )
I believe that you cannot survive easily in these types of houses, but a shocking fact is that these houses are in extensive demand. The citizens are ready to pay a hefty amount to own such houses just to get the chance to spend some time in peace. They don’t have time to spend with their loved ones. They all were running behind the temporary sources of happiness, but gradually they all have started to realize that their steps towards the future are taking them far more behind from the present.
I know that India as a country is being criticized all over the world because of some of the issues like the level of corruption, political scenarios, etc. but our JUGAAD is making us more sustainable than any other nation of this world. This is a lesson to learn for everyone.
Be Innovative. Be JUGAADU…!!!
I would also love to know that which kind of Jugaad you have used in the past in your life. Give your interesting answers in the comment box.
